Choral Evensong with Early English Music, Fall 2019

Works of Tudor and Elizabethan English composers will be heard in the context of Anglican Evensong on the second Sunday of each month beginning on September 8 at 4:00 pm at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 7850 Watt Ave., Antelope, CA.  This intimate chapel features a small chamber organ in meantone temperament and lovely acoustics.

Repertoire includes the office hymn “Christe, qui lux es et dies” by Robert White (c. 1538-1574), canticles by Thomas Morley (1557-1602), and music by Thomas Tallis (1505-1585), his Preces and Responses as well as the anthems “If ye love me”, “Audivi vocem”, “Out from the deep”, “Sancte Deus” and “In pace in idipsum”.

Evensong is a conflation of two early monastic hours–vespers and compline–and consists of music and prayers.  There is no homily and no Eucharist in this peaceful, ordered close to the day.  A free will offering is accepted for this service which lasts approximately 30 minutes.  For more information:  916-320-8423,
